DCSD ELD Information

The Douglas County School District provides World-Class educational programming to English Learners (ELs). English as a Second Language (ESL) programming provides social and academic language support for all ELs to become engaged learners who communicate effectively and think critically. English Learners, with the support of parents, students, staff, teachers, and the community will acquire the knowledge and skills necessary to be responsible citizens who contribute to a global society.

The mission of the Douglas County School District English as a Second Language Program is:

• To foster English language proficiency so that students may access a strong liberal arts education and core body of curriculum

• To cultivate the essential skills of reading, writing, listening and speaking in English language learners

• To maintain high educational expectations for students at all levels of language learning by fostering the skill of critical thinking

• To help students apply learning in all content areas by supporting the acquisition of social and academic English language skills

Hi! My name is Jenna Marshall and this is my 7th year in DCSD and I have been teaching for 12 years. I have the privilege of working with our multilingual students K-6. Previously,  I worked in Denver Public Schools and have had a wide variety of experience teaching most grades K-5. My bachelor's degree is in Speech and Language and I am thrilled to be able to combine my passions for language development and teaching English language learners! I have many years experience working with mainly ELL students and have a love for languages, teaching reading and writing, and diversity. I live in the Sand Creek neighborhood so I am part of the community and just think it is such a special place to teach. I live here with my husband and our two children, Max and Nora, who attend Sand Creek. We enjoy having adventures together with our two dogs and I have the same attitude with my students that every day is an adventure! I look forward to working with our Sand Creek kiddos and families this year!
