Literacy Intervention

Our literacy intervention strategy is firmly grounded in evidence-based practices and informed by the latest research in the Science of Reading. Through a structured literacy model, we address key components of reading and writing to provide effective support for all learners, including those with dyslexia or other learning differences.

Our structured literacy model encompasses the following components:

  • Phonemic Awareness
  • Phonics
  • Fluency
  • Vocabulary
  • Reading Comprehension
  • Written Expression

Structured literacy instruction at Sand Creek is:

  • Systematic: Following a carefully planned scope and sequence to ensure sequential and cumulative learning.
  • Explicit: Teaching each component of literacy, including phoneme-grapheme relationships and language structures.
  • Scaffolded: Providing support and guidance as students develop their literacy skills.
  • Differentiated: Tailoring instruction to meet the individual needs of each student.
