A key part of this system is W.I.N. (What I Need) Time, which provides daily opportunities for students to receive extended learning or enrichment when ready for additional challenge, and targeted instruction when additional support is needed, ensuring every learner grows.

As the only school in the area with two center-based programs, Sand Creek has the staffing and expertise to meet complex learning needs while also providing meaningful enrichment for advanced learners.

All students participate in daily Specials—including STEM, Music, Art, and Physical Education—taught by highly skilled specialists who bring expertise, creativity, and passion to their instruction.

Our Specials program is a defining part of the Sand Creek experience, helping students build confidence, explore interests, and develop skills across academics, athletics, and the arts.

Physical Education builds teamwork, resilience, and lifelong healthy habits through dynamic, skill-based instruction. PE also extends learning beyond the school day through popular before-school, after-school, and summer athletic programs that keep students active and connected to the Sand Creek community year-round.

Music supports creativity and performance skills through engaging instruction and meaningful opportunities such as choir and community performances, where students showcase their talents and celebrate their growth.

STEM encourages curiosity, problem-solving, and collaboration through hands-on learning experiences. Students can extend their learning through clubs such as Lego Club and Chess, which deepen critical thinking and creativity.

Art provides students with opportunities to explore creativity, develop artistic skills, and express themselves. Student work is regularly showcased through schoolwide displays and celebrations.

Students also participate in grade-level field experiences that extend classroom learning through real-world, hands-on connections.

Academic success begins with students who feel connected, confident, and ready to learn. At Sand Creek Elementary, our comprehensive school counseling program helps every child develop the life skills and positive behaviors that support success in the classroom and beyond.

Through the Wayfinder curriculum, students strengthen essential future-ready skills including self-awareness, empathy, adaptability, collaboration, agency, and purpose. These lessons help students build confidence, develop healthy relationships, solve problems, and take ownership of their learning.

Our schoolwide SOAR expectations (Safe, Organized, Accountable, Respectful) provide a consistent foundation for a safe, welcoming, and respectful school culture where students know what is expected and feel empowered to make positive choices every day.

By intentionally developing future-ready life skills alongside academic learning, Sand Creek students become confident learners, compassionate classmates, responsible citizens, and collaborative problem-solvers. Our Family Literacy Night and Family Math Night, offered on a rotating basis, invite families into hands-on learning experiences that share fun, practical ways to support learning at home.

We also host signature celebrations such as our Festival of Nations, which honors the cultures represented across our school, and Talent Day, where students proudly showcase their strengths, interests, and creativity.

One of the most anticipated events of the year is our BOO Bash, a PTO-hosted, schoolwide celebration filled with costumes, dancing, games, and energy. This beloved Sand Creek tradition, along with other PTO-supported events, strengthens connections and school pride.

Together, these experiences create a strong sense of belonging and a school community where families feel welcomed, connected, and engaged in their child’s learning journey.

A key strength of Sand Creek is our commitment to continuous professional learning for staff.

Our on-site Professional Learning Specialist works directly with teachers to provide:

• Weekly instructional coaching
• Embedded professional development
• Mentorship for new and early-career teachers
• Support with instructional planning and data-informed decision making

This ensures that teachers are continuously growing in their practice and that students benefit from consistent, high-quality instruction in every classroom.

Our collaborative culture allows teachers to work together, analyze student learning, and refine instruction in real time to meet student needs.

Sand Creek Elementary has been recognized by the Colorado Department of Education with the John Irwin School of Excellence Award and the Colorado Governor’s Distinguished Improvement Award, reflecting a strong tradition of academic excellence and student growth.
