SAC

An accountability committee is a group of parents/guardians, grandparents or other community members who have a vested interest in public school with a desire to help make positive changes that promote the school community. The committee serves in an advisory capacity to the principal on issues that might affect the entire school community. The SAC may advise the principal on topics such as:

• Preparation of the school’s Unified Improvement Plan
• Priorities for spending school funds
• Needs and concerns for the school’s community
• Family and community engagement strategies
• Recruitment of individuals to serve on the SAC

The primary purpose of the accountability committee is to serve in an advisory capacity to the principal. Local school accountability committees shall provide a means for citizens to have an integral part in the decision-making process at the school that he/she serves.

An accountability committee member must be an adult who is a proponent of public education and must have demonstrated continual involvement and service to his/her local school. Local accountability committees will follow guidelines established in the bylaws of the Douglas County School District. These guidelines help compose accountability committees as follows:

• At least one teacher who provides instruction in the school.
• At least three parents or legal guardians of students enrolled in the school.
• At least one adult member of an organization of parents, teachers and students recognized by the school.
• At least one adult member of the community.
• Committees shall be composed of 7-12 members.

The Sand Creek School Accountability committee meets from 3:45-4:45 pm on a Tuesday evening (4-5 times a year). Local school accountability committee members must attend 50% or more of the regular scheduled meetings each year. Accountability committee meetings are open to all members of the community.
