Grant Requests



Grant Eligibility:

In order to receive funding through the Sand Creek PTO one must fit into one of the following categories or groups:

  1. Sand Creek teachers
  2. Sand Creek staff
  3. Sand Creek active and present students

There are three different grant categories: Small Egg Grants, Eagle Grants, and Soaring Above the Limit Grants.

 Small Egg Grant Requests:

  • Any request for $100 or less including shipping/handling & tax. These grants are great for classroom materials, books, basic needs, etc.
  • Submitted any time throughout the year, reviewed by PTO Board every Monday
  • There is a total of $2,000 available in this category for the school year

Eagle Grant Requests:

  • Any request between $101-$1,000 including shipping/handling & tax. These grants are great for things like special projects, activities, books, equipment, technology, supplemental curriculum, or anything that enhances the academic lives of children at SCE.
  • Grants will be considered 4 times per school year (September, November, February, and April) during scheduled PTO meetings which usually take place on the 2nd Tuesday of every month.
  • Must be submitted ONE WEEK PRIOR to the grant month meeting unless otherwise stated. For example, requests for the September 10th meeting need to be submitted by September 3.
  • We would appreciate your attendance during the meeting to present your request; however, that is not necessary for your grant to be considered. Presenters will have 2-5 minutes, including questions, to present.
  • There is a total of $8,000 available in this category for the school year ($2,000 per grant month)

Soaring Above the Limits Grant Requests:

  • HAVE A GREAT IDEA THAT EXCEEDS A $1,000 PRICE TAG? Please consider submitting a special Soaring Above the Limits request. These grants are great for things like technology, guest speakers, conference fees, field study funding, etc.
  • These requests can be submitted at any time, and there is no financial limit in this category. Availability of funds at any given time will be dependent on fundraising and budget. 
  • These requests will assist the PTO in fundraising discussions and determine where our fundraising dollars should go.

 Application Considerations: 

  • All grant requests must directly impact the students and community of SCE.
  • All requests must include applicable fees and expenses, including shipping/handling & tax.
  • Available building funds should be used before requesting grant funds. 
  • Proposals should not include items or equipment already provided by Douglas Co. Schools.
  • Grants involving technology must be approved by the Douglas Co. Technology Department prior to submission. Please complete a district software/technology approval form and attach to your application.
  • Materials purchased with grant funds become property of Sand Creek Elementary. 
  • Please do not purchase materials before you have received approval. Purchases must be made within 30 days of notification of grant approval. The BOD reserves the right to revoke funds if purchases are not made in this time frame. 
  • The BOD reserves the right to change these limits at any time.
  • Grant forms will be made available through the Sand Creek website under PTO, Grant Requests.

Who is eligible to vote on these requests?

  • Members: provide community feedback
  • Board of Directors: Principal or designee = 1 vote, Co-Presidents = 1 vote each, Treasurer = 1 vote, Secretary = 1 vote, Staff Liaisons = 1 vote each
  • Quorum: 51% of active BOD members shall constitute a quorum in order to make any decisions requiring board approval.
