Tomi Stage

January/February 2022

Early Access Process for K/1 for the 2022-2023 School Year is now OPEN!  Early Access is designed for “highly advanced gifted” 4 or 5 year old children. It allows early access to kindergarten or first-grade for students who are academically gifted, socially and emotionally mature, in the top 2% or less of the gifted peer group, motivated to learn, ready for advanced placement, and who have exhausted the resources of preschool or home schooling.  Deadline to apply is April 1, 2022.No late applications will be accepted.    Link to the DCSD Early Access Website for more information.

Cognitive Ability Testing for 2nd Grade will be February 8-10.  All 2nd graders will be tested unless they already have a valid Cognitive Assessment score.  If you'd like to exempt your student from this testing, please complete this form:  Excusal Form.  This is also the time, that if your student is in a grade other than 2nd Grade, and would like your child to take the CogAT, you can refer your child for testing by competing the GT Referral Form.  Agreeing to this assessment for your child will automatically initiate the process of evaluation for Gifted Identification.  Please complete this by Thursday, February 3.
Be advised, you will need approximately 30 to 45 minutes to complete the entire document. At the end of this form there is a section for the student to complete. Please have them take their time as they answer these questions. If your child is not old enough to type, please transcribe their responses for them.
There is not a way to save your progress in this form. You need to be ready with your child to fill it out. Please reach out to Tomi Stage with questions.
I will automatically receive the form when you submit it; I will let you know when it has been received.

Here is a resource for more information about the CogAT For Parents.

I send out reminders for special events, important information, and updates to the website through an email to our google group - Sand Creek GT Parents.  Please let me know if you have a child with an ALP, but have not been receiving any group notifications from me.

What We've Been Up To:

• K/1st Grade:  We have been working on reading comprehension activities.  We are working on learning to log in and out of our Thrively and take our assessment.

•2nd Grade: Daily Math challenge problems and STEM Plank challenges.

•3rd Graders: In Math we are working on the enrichment problems that go with the grade level math lessons. In Reading we are learning about the Native American beliefs around spirit animals and use the 3D printer to create our out totem poles made with our spirit animals.

4th  Graders: 4th Graders are coming to the Math Lab 2-3 times a week to work on individualized math activities.  We are working on multidigit division. We are working on a self selected research project that incorporates our learning styles in Reading.  These are due January 27.

5th Graders are working on the Building Challenges: they are part of a team of "architects" preparing a proposal for designing an office building.   In literacy we are writing our Choose Your Own Adventure stories.

•6th Graders: In Math students are "buying a car".  This is a reality check for them with having to pay interest, put down a down payment, and figure out how long and what the final cost will be!  In literacy we have been working on our Thrively assessments.
